The Dane bested a field of 6,844 players to clinch the World Poker crown, which is even more impressive when you consider that he entered the tournament as an unknown, with his playing experience mostly gained from Internet poker sites.

The Russian was a tough opponent, and it was only after a grueling five hour head-to-head battle that the Dane broke Demidov’s play in the final hand, laying down an ace of diamonds to the triumphant shouts and screams of his fans in the audience.

The World Series final in Las Vegas is known as the ‘Main Event’, as it has the biggest prize pot of all of the 50 events that make up the World Series Tour, and its elaborate settings in the heart of one of the most famous gambling cities in the world has made it the most popular poker event of the year for both fans and players.
